Questions from Yam’s Blog: Year Seven

What did you do in 2014 that you’d never done before?
Since 40 was around the corner, I began seeing a personal trainer because I wanted to focus on getting my health right. This culminated in November with me walking my first half marathon, which is something that has been on my bucket list! I was very excited when I finished!

Oh, and I also took a cooking lesson (baking bread), but don’t ask me to bake any. LOL. You use it or you lose it! I want to do more in 2015!

Did you keep your New Years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Since 40 was around the corner, I wanted to work on my health.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
My coworker Stephanie had a boy!

Did anyone close to you die?
No.

What countries did you visit?
I went to Croatia, Slovenia, and Venice. Had a quick stop in Bosnia and a day trip to Montenegro.

What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?
2014 was okay, but there were times I haven’t felt very “settle” for lack of a better word. I would like to feel more planted.

What date from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory?
Memories of travel stick out over time. I can remember the names of people I’ve meet even for a few hours because they are part of an amazing journey of openness.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I was very excited when we completed the 50th issue of the PCC Scroll. When we started the newsletter, reaching that milestone was not something I had really thought about.

What was your biggest failure?
Same as last year. I don’t handle “disappointments” well. And after my meltdowns, things fall into place. I’m trying to get better at my reactions especially since I know that all things work for my good. I’m kind of a spoiled brat, but I do my whining and pouting in private.

Did you suffer illness or injury?
No. My health tends to be good.

What was the best thing you bought?
My plane ticket! Always a good investment.

Whose behavior merited celebration?
I noticed that a lot of people are trying to accomplish their dreams. I am very proud of those people.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
I am a little confused with people who profess to be Christians, but they have nothing but anger, malice, and hate in their hearts. To know Christ is to know love. Spewing hate tells me you have never met God.

Where did most of your money go?
Outside of normal monthly experience, travel, which is a good thing.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My trip and the 50th edition of the Scroll!

What song/album will always remind you of 2014?
Nothing stands out. I’m not a really big music person though.

Compared to this time last year, are you:
– happier or sadder? Happier
– thinner or fatter? Thinner (smile)
– richer or poorer? Richer

What do you wish you’d done more of?
I wish I could afford to do more travel, which is not necessarily true. I just need to refocus my budget.

What do you wish you’d done less of?
I could have spent less time stressing and worrying over things (and people) I can’t change.

How will you be spending New Year’s?
New Year’s Eve at church then hopefully to Denise’s.

Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
I don’t really talk on the phone

Did you fall in love in 2014?
No! Every year is a disappointment LOL – I’m not bitter or anything *_*

How many one night stands in this last year?
Do people do that?

What was your favorite TV program?
The only shows I followed are Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones. I also like The Big Bang Theory.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I don’t really hate anyone, but there are people who are not healthy to be around.

What was the best book(s) you read?
I don’t think I read anything new this year. Just re-reads.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
No new music.

What did you want and get?
I wanted to travel, and I was able to save enough money to do so.

What did you want and not get?<
I’m trying to embrace won’t I don’t get. Things have a way of working out. I am grateful for not getting a few things I thought I wanted.

What were your favorite films of this year?
I am looking forward to watching the third installment of the Hobbit next week!

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 40, and I had a small get together with some girlfriends.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I’m trying to focus on being grateful for the things I have. Sometimes we think life will be great when we have this, that, or the other, but things are good!

It would be nice to have someone to share my life with, but only if it’s the right person.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2014?
I like to be comfortable.

What kept you sane?
Writing, traveling, and alone time.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Not really into anyone right now.

What political issue stirred you the most?
There are three topics that are sure to get people riled up: race, religion, and politics. I don’t talk much about my experience as a black woman in America, but I am on edge about racial matters in this here country.

Who did you miss?
I miss my old friends near and far but realize times are changing.

Who was the best new person you met?
I met four amazing women on my trip!

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2014.
People speak with their words but it’s in the actions that the truth is told.

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year?
Drawing a blank.

Questions from Yam’s Blog: Year Six

What did you do in 2013 that you’d never done before?

The most exciting thing was finishing the compiling, editing and publishing of the anthology for my church! It’s available on Amazon.

I went to Germany and Switzerland for the first time, which was cool. I especially liked Lucerne.

I also flew in a seaplane, which was one of the things I wanted to do from my “life experience” list.

I went to New England for the first time in May to visit my friend Diana.

I also played a Dungeon and Dragons game for the first time. It was fun! And I did the Challenge Nation scavenger hunt, which was fun too!

Did you keep your New Years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

My only goal was to keep traveling, which I did. I will not make any for next year. My church is going to do some sort of 90-day challenge. I’m not sure on the details, but I think it’s about creating habits.

I would like to spend more time expressing myself creatively. I want to write more and dab into painting. I used my camera phone a lot this year, and I would like to continue it into next year. I need to get a good camera. I’m extremely excited that the 50th issue of my church newsletter will come out in April. I also would like to do some hiking.

Did anyone close to you give birth?

Anitra and Des. They both had boys!

Did anyone close to you die?

No.

What countries did you visit?

I went to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland with a drive by in Lichtenstein. I started in Mainz and then to Heidelberg. In Switzerland, I spent a few nights in Lucerne and also went to Mount Pilatus. On the way to Austria, did a stop by in Lichtenstein. I went to Austria last year, but only to Vienna. This year, I went to Innsbruck and Salzburg. I spent most of my time in Germany in Munich (I think six nights). Plus some day trips from the various cities to Neuschwanstein Castle, Eagle’s Nest, Linderhof, and spent a few hours in Oberammergou. From Munich, I did day trips to Dachau and Regensburg.

What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?

I need to do more volunteer work. I’ve been thinking, and I need to figure out a way to give more of my time and resources.

What date from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory?

Memories of travel stick out over time. I can remember the names of people I’ve meet even for a few hours because they are part of an amazing journey of openness.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Completing the anthology was huge! I had to just let it go despite any fears and insecurities on my part. I was so worried about not noticing something that needed to be editing. But I had to let that go and not worry about it. It’s easy to be a critic, creating is hard.

I also took a public speaking course this year. It’s something I have tried to avoid, but I have to embrace it.

What was your biggest failure?

I don’t handle “disappointments” well. And after my meltdowns, things fall into place. I’m trying to get better at my reactions especially since I know that all things work for my good. I’m kind of a spoiled brat, but I do my whining and pouting in private.

Did you suffer illness or injury?

No. My health tends to be good.

What was the best thing you bought?

My plane ticket! Always a good investment. I do want to buy a new, good camera early next year.

Whose behavior merited celebration?

I noticed that a lot of people are trying to accomplish their dreams. I am very proud of those people.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

I am finding the people I have the strongest reaction to are normally people who exhibit behavior I see in myself.

Where did most of your money go?

Outside of normally monthly experience, travel, which is a good thing.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?

My trip and the book!

What song/album will always remind you of 2013?

Nothing stands out.

Compared to this time last year, are you:

happier or sadder? Happier

thinner or fatter? Fatter

richer or poorer? Richer

What do you wish you’d done more of?

I wish I could afford to do more travel.

What do you wish you’d done less of?

I could have spent less time stressing and worrying over things I can’t change.

How will you be spending New Year’s?

New Year’s Eve at church then home.

Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?

I don’t really talk on the phone

Did you fall in love in 2013?

No! But I think I’m ready ;).

How many one night stands in this last year?

Do people do that? I don’t.

What was your favorite TV program?

The only shows I followed are Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones.

What did you want and not get?

I’m trying to embrace won’t I don’t get. Things have a way of working out. I am grateful for not getting a few things I thought I wanted.

What were your favorite films of this year?

I watched installment two of the Hobbit. One more installment in December 2014. I also saw Meet the Millers, which was actually quite funny!

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I turned 39, and I had a small get together at a friends’ house. I also went to other lunches and dinners.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

I’m trying to focus on being grateful for the things I have. Sometimes we think life will be great when we have this, that, or the other, but things are good!

It would be nice to have someone to share my life with, but only if it’s the right person.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?

I like to be comfortable.

What kept you sane?

Writing, traveling, and my close friends.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Not really into anyone right now.

What political issue stirred you the most?

The healthcare debate is interesting. On one hand, I don’t mind helping those in need. On the other hand, I see many people in the middle class having rising health packages. I am concerned with the middle class shrinkage.

Who did you miss?

I miss my friends who live far away like Yamini, Mary, and Molly.

Who was the best new person you met?

Did I meet anyone new?

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.

I have to constantly remind myself that it doesn’t matter what life throws at me, it matters how I react to it. I have to ask myself the question will it matter in a week, month, or year. Most times the answer is no.

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year?

“It’s my life
It’s now or never
I ain’t gonna live forever
I just want to live while I’m alive
(It’s my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said
I did it my way
I just wanna live while I’m alive
It’s my life”

Questions from Yam’s Blog: Year Five

What did you do in 2012 that you’d never done before?
I went whale watching and on a horse and buggy ride, and they were both awesome!

Did you keep your New Years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
My goals for 2012 were: Travel, publish an anthology for my church, and make what I eat count.
I did travel. The anthology is a little behind schedule. I just gave the final edits to the designer! I have been eating a lot better. I do need to watch my end of the day snacking though.
For 2013? Travel (smile).

Did anyone close to you give birth?
I type no with trembling fingers.

Did anyone close to you die?
No, which was a break from 2011.

What countries did you visit?
I went to Poland, Hungary, Austria, and the Czech Republic. I spent half a day in Slovakia.

What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
I would like to have more of a dating life. I think I have a good life, and it would be nice to have someone to share it with.

What date from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory?
My trip days are always such a huge part of my memory in any given year. Travel is inspiring and changing. The U.S. election was also a big night, with mixed reactions.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I’ve had a goal to increase my “I don’t have a job” emergency fund. I’ve made some serious inroads. Also, the almost complete anthology is huge for me.

What was your biggest failure?
That’s an interesting question. One thing I have been working on is not letting anything destroy my internal peace. Despite any chaos and drama, I need to remain centered. I’ve made inroads, but I still find myself being taken in by dumb stuff. Need to keep working on it.

Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing major. I did catch the flu around Christmas. My health tends to be good.

What was the best thing you bought?
My plane ticket!

Whose behavior merited celebration?
I noticed that a lot of people are trying to accomplish their dreams. I am very proud of those people.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
This is an interesting question. I find it depressing when people just don’t tell the truth. Like, if you tell me you love me, then love me.

Where did most of your money go?
I splurge on travel. Technically, most of my money went on my mortgage.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Travel plans and plots on future travel plans. I was also excited to cross a few things off my bucket list like whale watching and riding in a horse and buggy.

What song/album will always remind you of 2012?
Nothing comes to mind.

Compared to this time last year, are you:
happier or sadder? Happier
thinner or fatter? Fatter
richer or poorer? Richer

What do you wish you’d done more of?
I wish I could afford to do more travel.

What do you wish you’d done less of?
I need to build up the relationships that matter.

How will you be spending New Year’s?
New Year’s Eve dinner at church then home.

Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
Probably my friend Sophia who lives in Florida.

Did you fall in love in 2012?
No! But there is someone who interests me.
How many one night stands in this last year?
Do people do that? I don’t.

What was your favorite TV program?
I love Downton Abbey. I like watching syndicated programs of Seinfeld, The Office, 30 Rock, and I have discovered the Big Bang Theory is hilarious. I also like Game of Thrones, which I normally see at the end since I don’t have HBO.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I don’t really hate anyone, but there are people who are not healthy to be around.

What was the best book(s) you read?
The 50 Shades of Grey series. Ha-ha.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
I love “Song of the Lonely Mountain” and “Misty Mountain” from the Hobbit.

What did you want and get?
I wanted to travel, and I was able to save enough money to do so.

What did you want and not get?
Last year this time, I was hoping for Mr. Right to come along. This is kind of a dilemma for me. I am comfortable and happy in my current state. I don’t want someone to come a long just for the sake of having someone. He was to be the right someone.

What were your favorite films of this year?
The Hobbit!

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 38, and I had a small get together at a friends’ house. I also went to other lunches and dinners.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
As I get older, I realize that nothing external can make me satisfied. That has to come from inside. So, I will say appreciate for the blessings in my life.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
Casual but cute.

What kept you sane?
Writing and my awesome community.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
The old favorites are still in play. I am hoping Alexander Skarsgard gets to play Christian Grey *_*.

What political issue stirred you the most?
I wouldn’t say stirred, but the issue of gun control is going to be interesting to watch unfold.

Who did you miss?
I miss my friends who live far away like Yamini, Mary, Sophia, and Molly.

Who was the best new person you met?
Do I even meet new people?

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012.
Actions do speak louder than words, as do non-action.

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year?
I am the thorn in Your crown
But You love me anyway
I am the sweat from Your brow
But You love me anyway
I am the nail in Your wrist
But You love me anyway
I am Judas’ kiss
But You love me anyway

Facebook 25 Random Things About Me

Facebook 25 Random Things About Me

I forgot about this! This was done in February 2009 as well. That month I did not reach my goal I posted all this random stuff!

25 Random things about me:

1. My relationship with God is very important to me. I’ve been adopted into my pastor’s family and have received love, support, and stability. I can say that I am blessed and a bit spoiled.

2. I have always loved to write. It helps me sort through my feelings. Even when I want to deny a thought or feeling, my writing has a way of bringing it to the surface.

3. I have always loved to read. I really like the classics, Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice, etc. because they are well written.

4. I love to travel. It has taught me a lot about myself. I am totally obsessed with going to Ireland. There is something waiting for me there. I’m prepared to fall in love.

5. I am an introvert and maybe a bit of a loner. I love spending Saturdays at home by myself. I have a routine of cleaning, doing laundry, and relaxing. One resolution for 2009 is to actually leave the house on Saturdays and interact with other people – LOL.

6. I have a very active imagination. I have to make myself be in the moment because my mind will have me on an adventure miles away.

7. I love to read books and watch movies about the Tudor period of English history. I am fascinated by Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. Actually, as I travel, I’ve developed a love for history in general.

8. I’ve been in love once. I’ve met guys since then, but I haven’t felt the connection since.

9. I’ve only had one job out of college. I’ve worked at the Port since October 1996. I went there on a two-week temp assignment that never ended.

10. I didn’t get my license until I was like 30. LOL. I now have a 2001 Toyota Corolla that I plan to have for the next twenty years. I’m like a grandma, I only drive on Sundays.

11. I have a lot of crazy dreams. It may go back to my overactive imagination.

12. I love putting water in the freezer and letting it freeze over the top and then drinking it. I do it over and over again. It’s so refreshing.

13. I think I am starting to nest. I recently redid my condo and now I’m starting to cook more. It could be bio clock ticking since I will be high-risk maternity age in a little more than a month.

14. Sometimes before I go to bed, I check under my bed and behind my shower curtain.

15. I may be addicted to Facebook.

16. I take the bus to work. I have a few bus buddies I look forward to chatting with. I change my route to work every so often because I got to keep any stalkers guessing.

17. I’ve had three half-baked, desperate marriage proposals. They all got the same answer: HELL NO!

18. I am good with names. Actually, my memory is pretty good with remembering random events of life.

19. I go through seasons of having vanilla ice-cream, bananas, and chocolate syrup for dessert nightly. I stop when my clothes start getting tight.

20 I’ve been an usher at my church for years. Many of those years I was known as the “mean usher”.

21. When grocery shopping, I like to look at items I’ll never by. I go visit the hostess cupcakes, Twinkies, cookies, etc. I just like to tease them.

22. I am very competitive. I love playing board games and watching sports.

23. I am extremely organized. It’s actually a sickness.

24. I want a nose ring. Unfortunately it doesn’t go well in corporate America.

25. Random men sometimes stop me to tell me what nice lips I have. During these moments, I want to run and hide.

I would add:

When I was younger, I was a member of the Sunshine Jumpers. It was a team that did Jump Rope for Heart. We competed with other teams in the state, and we also went around the state performing for assemblies. In retrospect, it was a really cool experience.

I love tattoo art. Because of the conservative nature of my industry, they are all in discreet places.

I am a complete and hopeless romantic. Le Sigh!

I have a mild case of OCD.

I hate doing handy work. For example, one of my cabinets became unhinged. I had to unscrew it and put it back together. Pure torture.

When I meet “the one,” handy work, car maintenance, and driving will all be turned over to him. The MOU is ready!

Bail!

Facebook Bail: $225.50

This is something else I did from Facebook. I did it in February 2009 and my bail was $180. Looking at the list closer, it should have been $205.50! Doing it now, my mail is $225.50. ROFL! I’m not sure if I didn’t include something else last time that I should have, or I have committed more crimes since the last update. I really don’t know the answer so I will just plead the Fifth!

You don’t have to confess your answers, just the amount of your fine.
